Facts and Questions

Here at the L.C. Cariou Online Shop we aim to provide excellent quality products.

HOW DO I BUY AN ORIGINAL?

Originals will be available here. I create only about 6-8 original paintings per year and they are for sale here on my website!

CAN I COMMISSION A PAINTING?

Yes you can. Please feel free to reach out to me here to inquire about a commission. Please attach a description, size, and a high resolution reference photo of what you have in mind!

A few things to keep in mind about getting a commissioned work from me… I will give you a quote for the commission dependent on the size, I require a 50% deposit for all commissions, I retain rights to the artwork, you only own the physical painting you have commissioned. My best painting sizes are roughly 16’’ x 12’’, but I may accommodate to most sizes. I paint landscapes, gardens, plants, and architecture the best! I am NOT a portrait painter! I am not gifted at painting people or animals. My style is highly realistic and you might think I can paint anything but that honestly is not the case!

PRINT QUALITY & DETAILS

The prints that come out of my studio are all printed on a Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-300 professional inkjet photo and fine art printer which has a 9-colour plus Chroma Optimizer ink system which delivers gallery quality prints. The paper I use is an acid free cold-pressed paper that is very similar to the watercolour paper I use for my original paintings. The prints are frequently mistaken for originals.

Something to consider when you are displaying your prints: Please do not use tape (including washi tape) on the front of your print as it will pull the pigment from the paper.

FRAMING

Framing is the icing on the cake to make your artwork sing! It honestly makes your artwork look so good. You can take your work to a local frame shop (I suggest Micheal’s as being the most universal in most cities) or buy a frame and DIY!

Framing will protect your artwork from dust and wear, and if you invest in the proper glass (UV protected) it will protect it from light as well. I offer framed ORIGINALS from my studio and here are my frame recommendations for my prints.

My biggest tip is to NOT FORGET THE MAT BOARD. Having a mat board for your print will make your new artwork look extremely elegant. Most frame shops will affordably cut a custom mat for you as well!

YOU WOULD LIKE A LARGER PRINT?

The largest prints that I have listed are the largest that I may print from my studio. The image quality and the delicacy of the details are very important to me and add to the value of my work.  You are going to be amazed when you see your large print in person!  They really do look SO MUCH like originals. If you are interested in filling a super large area of your wall with my artwork I recommend putting together a collection of 3-6 pieces. I offer collector discounts on multiple prints.

However if you really want one of my works that is huge/as big as your wall I am happy to outsource to do a custom print for you! It is a dream of mine to see my work blown up to a very large size. - You can inquire about that here.

WHO ACTUALLY OWNS THE PAINTING?

I, L.C. Cariou, retains all rights to all artwork I create. This includes the rights to the image of sold & commissioned original paintings. I retain the right to make reproductions of any and all artwork I create unless the Collector has purchased the full or partial rights to the artwork (this is in addition to purchasing the original).

The Collector or buyer may not reproduce the artwork in any way without written permission from me. If the artwork ends up being reproduced in a magazine or other media I only ask for credit.

When you purchase an original painting you, the collector, have the right to display the artwork in your home or business but the artwork may not be resold or reproduced without my written permission.

Please let me know if you are interested in purchasing full or partial rights to your painting.  Some collectors choose to purchase my right to reproduce the artwork to ensure it will never become a print. I am happy to discuss that with you if you would like!
