"Kew's Palm House" - Print
from CA$41.50

“Kew’s Palm House" pulls focus looking down a main paths of the Kew Garden’s deliciously humid Palm House.

On my trip to London in 2018 I spent a whole day at Kew Garden’s, and the Palm House holds my heart to this day. Housing tropical and sub-tropical plants from the depths of the rainforest, around every corner I was stunned by magnificent grand plants. With the morning light pouring through the windows, and the mist heavy in the air. Walking down the pathways of the Palm house was breathtaking.

The view that captures the essence of the Palm House and its jungle is its pathways. The distinct Victorian architecture, the dense foliage, palm trees, and sunlight dappling down is quintessentially the Palm House.

This painting was the start of my professional watercolour career. It was the first painting that I did after a years long gap in painting, and the one that reminded me that I love working with the medium. Marrying my two loves of painting and gardens.

Misty light, this painting focuses on the damp pathway that is reflecting the light of the Palm House and captures the size of the trees. Creating a feeling of wonder

I hope that the spirit of the astonishing tropical plants and diffused lighting of this painting inspires you to collect this watercolour.

"South Kensington Morning" - Print
from CA$41.50

“South Kensington Morning" celebrates the view over the backyards of row houses in South Kensington, London, England, early on a clear and bright summer morning.

Those summer mornings where you wake up, the sky is blue, there is not a cloud in sight, the neighbourhood is still quiet, and the day is not yet hot, is one of my favourite feelings. It is something about the light and air at that time that fills me with the feeling that anything is possible.

When I visited England in 2018 I loved seeing the rows of houses. Their architecture felt so romantic and different from what I am used to in Canada. So when I was staying in London and saw this great view out the window of where I was staying I was inspired.

In this painting the culmination of the British architecture, the trees and the morning light all shine and create a radiant feeling, which I hope you want to bring into your collection.

Portrait of a Mottisfont Rose - Original Painting
from CA$1,500.00

The British Horticulture Series Collection: “Portrait of a Mottisfont Rose"

“Portrait of a Mottisfont Rose" depicts a portrait of a single pale pink rose from the walled rose garden of England’s National Trust site Mottisfont.

Mottisfont Rose Garden was the first garden that I visited on a trip to England in 2018. I had been pouring over magazines and books of British gardens for at least a year prior to the trip, obsessing over the horticultural marvels that existed in the UK. I remember being able to smell the roses from outside the gardens walls. It was intoxicating. Upon entering the actual garden it was everything I had dreamed of and more. The morning light was exquisite and the roses were exploding across the garden.

What drew me to paint this rose was its elegance and delicate colour. Soft, almost white, pink flowers are my favourites in any garden. I also enjoyed the dichotomy between the in focus rose in the foreground and all of the dynamic blurred stems and leaves of the rose bush in the background. It creates a simple yet energetic composition that celebrates an English rose.

I hope that the candor of this piece inspires you to collect this graceful watercolour painting of a rose.

"Mottisfont Rose Pond" - Print
from CA$41.50

“Mottisfont Rose Pond" illustrates a carpet rose bush growing over and dipping into the pond in Mottisfont’s walled rose garden.

What inspired me the most about this image was all of the different plains you can see. From the rose bush draped over top of the edge of the pond, the reflection of the rose bush on the surface of the water, the petals floating on top of the pond, and being able to see through the clear water down to the rocks at the bottom. Trying to paint so many delicate elements really excited me.

I hope that the magic of this piece entices you to collect this intense watercolour.

"From Kew’s Palm House Balcony" - Print
from CA$41.50

“From Kew’s Palm House Balcony" illuminates the view looking down one of the flanking wings of the Glasshouse from the raised galleried walkways (aka the balcony) in Kew Garden’s Palm House.

This perspective of being on the same level as the tree tops is amazing and rare. Typically we only ever get to experience down below the rainforest canopy, where it is mysterious, and shaded. The fantastical view of looking down through the plants from above gives the sense of being bigger and taller in the jungle than you really are.

I hope that this exciting cloud of foliage entices you to add it to your art collection.

"Looking Up in Kew's Palm House" - Print
from CA$41.50

“Looking Up in Kew’s Palm House” painting looks up to one of the impressive Victorian iron joints along the ceiling of Kew garden’s Palm House.

The feature elements of this painting are the decadent plants and the elaborate architecture of the glass house. The Palm House was built by borrowing techniques from ship builders in 1848, making it resemble a ship structurally. It was the largest glasshouse in the world to ever be built at the time.

From Sakler's Crossing - Original Painting
CA$3,000.00

The British Horticulture Series Collection: “From Sackler’s Crossing"

“From Sackler’s Crossing" depicts a south-eastern view of Kew Garden’s lake from Sackler Crossing, the bridge, which crosses Kew’s lake.

Kew Garden’s lake has four islands which provide colour and reflections for the lake which were inspiring to see. I also wanted to capture various textures of trees. I loved the softness of the pine needles, and the denseness of the foliage.

Looking Into a Bromeliad - Original Painting
from CA$1,500.00

The British Horticulture Series Collection: “Looking Into a Bromeliad"

“Looking Into a Bromeliad" is a portrait of a bromeliad, Neoregelia cruenta, plant growing in Kew Garden’s Princess of Wales conservatory.

Bromeliads are fascinating. They store water in their central cup, to ensure the plant has its own steady water supply when it grows in trees in the wild. Because of this the stored water can provide life support for living creatures such as tadpoles of tree frogs and insects.

I loved the dry powdered wax-like texture of this plant, along with its fuchsia core and electric green centre. The composition feels all encompassing and hypnotic.

I hope that this magnificent bromeliad entices you to add it to your collection.

"The Princess of Wales Conservatory" - Print
from CA$41.50

“Princess of Wales Conservatory" illustrates Kew Garden’s Princess of Wales Conservatory, which houses non-woody temperate and tropical plants at Kew.

This glass house has 10 different climate zones, placing the warmer zones at the centre and cooler ones towards the edges. This painting centres on the wet tropical zone, which features the amazing giant waterlily’s, Victoria amazonica, which can reach up to 2.8 metres wide and are grown from seed each year at Kew.

I was inspired by the multiplicity of things that were happening in this painting. From the lily pads, the vines, the leaves of all of the different plants and trees throughout this painting, the reflections in the water, and the windows of the glasshouse.

I was very excited about the many elements and small details to paint and knew it was going to be an exciting challenge. This painting was a keystone in my art career, in 2021 it had the great honour of winning the Leathersellers’ Prize for best artist under 30, from The Worshipful Company of Leathersellers at the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours 209th Annual Exhibition in London.

I hope that the exciting plethora of details and colours in this painting inspire you to add it to your collection.
